SERVAGel ™– Precast Mini Gels for Vertical Protein Electrophoresis

SERVA Electrophoresis GmbH introduces the range of novel precast gels for protein electrophoresis in mini slab format, prepared in 10 x 10 cm unbreakable plastic cassettes. Excellent separation, ease-of handling due to smart cassette design and extended shelf life are the main benefits. Gels are manufactured in proprietary production in Heidelberg, Germany.

SERVAGels™ are prepared from various acrylamide concentrations and with various gel buffers: available as SERVAGel™ Tris-Glycine (“Laemmli”) gels (in acrylamide concentrations of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 % or as gradient gels 4 - 12 %, 4 – 20 %, and 8 – 16 %, or as SERVAGel ™Neutral pH 7.4 and SERVAGel ™Neutral pH 7.4 Gradient gels, which can be operated with different running buffers (Tris-Glycine, MOPS, Tricine) for different separation requests. SERVAGel ™ do not contain any SDS in the gel buffer, thus, it is your choice to employ denaturing or native conditions in your electrophoresis.

The SERVAGel™ Tris-Glycine gels is the standard solution for separation of proteins in native and SDS PAGE. Offering different separation ranges including gradient gels you may easily find your favourite gel type.

The SERVAGel Neutral pH 7.4 was developed by SERVA to feature a wide span for separation of molecular weight using the same gel , from small proteins (as small as 6 kDa) to large proteins (up to 200 kDa). Thus, it is ideally suited to screen complex protein samples, similar to a gradient gel of Laemmli buffer type. The advantage of the neutral pH is the prolonged shelf life, i.e. 6 months, whereas standard Tris-Glycine gels deteriorate in shorter times (usually 2-3 months) due to the basic pH in the gel.

The SERVAGel ™ is prepared in a plastic cassette providing a gel thickness of 1 mm and is shipped with the comb (12 wells). The separating distance of gel is 7 cm. Each gel is sealed individually in a bag containing a paper wick soaked in buffer to prevent from drying during storage. Gel boxes of 2, 6 and 10 gels can be ordered, larger pack sizes are available on request.

The smart design of the unbreakable, leakage-free cassette features a cm-scale at front to allocate bands and their position relatively to the starting position. Marking of anode and cathode ensures error-free assignment. An extra tool provided in each gel box helps easy and safe opening of cassette at the end of run. The common format of cassette 10 x 10 cm is widely compatible with most commercially available slab gel units.
