N-Dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (DDM) is a non-ionic detergent for the stabilization and activation of enzymes and the study of membranes and membrane-bound proteins. It is a surfactant compound composed of a maltoside sugar with a long aliphatic side-chain.
DDM has been described to form useful micelles for the stabilization and solubilization of proteins. Especially suitable for the activation of cytochrome C oxidase. Frequently used for the investigation of photosynthetic membranes.
