Morpholinoethane sulfonic acid monohydrateanalytical grade

(MES)
C6H13NO4S·H2OMr 213.25CAS [145224-94-8]

MES or Morpholinoethane sulfonic acid is a zwitterionic N-substituted aminosulfonic acid Good’s buffer for biochemistry and molecular biology (1, 2). The pKa (20 °C) of 6.15 makes MES an ideal component for cell culture media and protein based buffer formulations to maintain a stable environment in solution.
MES is used as a SDS PAGE running buffer for resolving small proteins and as well as a biological buffer in plant cell cultures.
MES is non-toxic to culture cell lines, highly water soluble and provides high solution clarity. Sterilization should be by filtration through 0.2 μm filters. Autoclaving is not recommended by any sulfonic acid buffers.
