Cytochalasin B is a metabolite of the fungus Drechslera dematoidea which binds to the barbed end of actin filaments resulting in inhibition of both the association and dissociation of subunits.
Cytochalasin B is a reversible inhibitor of cell motion (1), inhibits phagocytosis (2), induces polyploidy (3) and induces nuclear extrusion (4, 5). It binds to the glucose transporter and inhibits monosaccharide transport across the plasma membrane.
